Entity: Ben Gurion University
Projcet Type: Non Core

The Institutes for Desert Research were established in Sede-Boqer in 1974. Since their inception, the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research (BIDR) at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) demonstrated a commitment to understanding the desert by establishing itself as a world-class institution of research and higher education.

With drylands constituting nearly fifty percent of the world, the BIDR's mission to nurture sustainable dryland development without damaging the environment has implications for all of humanity.

The BIDR has developed an integrative approach to dryland research and development that brings together the study of water, agriculture, environment and energy.

The BIDR is organized into three institutes: the Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research, the French Associates Institute for Biotechnology and Agriculture of Drylands and the Swiss Institute for Dryland Environmental Research.
