Koret School of Veterinary Medicine

Entity: Koret School of Veterinary Medicine
Project Type: Core
Duration of Support: 2 yeas (2006, 2010)

The Koret School of Veterinary Medicine of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is Israel's only veterinary school offering veterinary studies (DVM) and performing clinical veterinary research. The School hosted a Palestinian veterinarian doctor on an academic externship, to improve his research and practical expertise.

Founded in 1985, The Koret School of Veterinary Medicine is Israel’s only veterinary school. The school is part of the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Since its establishment, it has become a viable and dynamic school, offering a four year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. The Koret School is located both on the campus of the Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot and at the Veterinary Teaching University Hospital campus in Rishon Le Zion.

The goal of The Koret School of Veterinary Medicine is to educate and train highly qualified veterinary students, so that they will be able to meet the present and future professional challenges. Koret School also offers post-graduate and continuing education programs for local and new immigrant veterinarians. In addition, research in basic sciences and clinical veterinary medicine is conducted.

The funds were donated to execute an externship for a Palestinian veterinarian, who cooperated in a joint research on zoonosis diseases (i.e. infectious diseases of animals that can naturally be transmitted to humans). During this externship, the veterinarian doctor participated in sessions and worked side by side with the Koret School's staff.
